Intervention: Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is a (one teacher to one child) program that boosts the attainment of reading and writing. Our Reading Recovery teachers are Mr. Gardner & Mr. Robinson. The program is paid for from our Pupil Premium grant.
The child is taken out of class lessons to work with the teachers for 40 minutes every day (if possible). The child is given homework every night that they have a lesson and this must be returned the next day as it forms part of the following day’s lesson.
We have seven children on the program at any one time. The children have to be between 5 years 9 months old and 6 years 3 months old when they start the program. The program has no set length, but usually takes up to 1 ½ terms.
Children usually move from being low attainers for their age to being average or high attainers. This improvement usually stays with the child for the rest of their time in school.
